Soft skills are key in recruitment – but do you know what you are looking for?
There has been a shift in demand for workplace skills and a rise in demand for the type of soft skills that support working remotely, according to a new survey.
The Future of Soft Skills in the Workplace study surveyed over 1,000 employees to find out the skills employees and businesses value and how technology is impacting this.
The top 10 skills for employees joining a company were as follows:
- Communication
- Problem-solving
- Time management
- Critical thinking
- Self-motivation
- Attention to detail
- Flexibility
- Growth mindset
- Adaptability
- Leadership
Increasingly businesses are realising that they have to determine these skills at the interview stage but very few managers have received formal training in interviewing. The only way to determine at interview if these attributes are present, is to seek evidence of past behaviour in which the attributes and skills have been demonstrated.
