Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2026 takes place from 11–17 May, with the theme “Action,” led by the Mental Health Foundation. The message is clear: awareness alone is no longer enough. Employers are being encouraged to take practical, measurable steps that genuinely support employee wellbeing.

For organisations, mental health is no longer simply an HR topic, it is a business priority. Workplace stress, burnout, anxiety and depression continue to affect productivity, retention and employee engagement across every sector. Employees increasingly expect workplaces to provide psychologically safe environments where people can speak openly, access support and maintain a healthy work-life balance.

Mental Health Awareness Week gives employers an opportunity to reflect on workplace culture and identify where improvements can be made. That could include manager training, flexible working policies, mental health first aiders, regular wellbeing check-ins, or ensuring workloads are realistic and sustainable. Importantly, the focus should be on long-term action rather than one-off campaigns or internal communications.

The 2026 theme also highlights the importance of leadership. Employees are more likely to seek support when leaders openly discuss wellbeing and model healthy behaviours themselves. Small actions  such as encouraging breaks, recognising signs of stress, or creating time for meaningful conversations  can have a significant impact on team morale and resilience.

Ultimately, Mental Health Awareness Week is a reminder that healthier workplaces benefit everyone. When employers invest in mental wellbeing, they create stronger teams, improve performance and build more inclusive, supportive organisations for the future.
